More and more Brazilian cities have been making efforts to offer equal conditions of access to their services and equipment to people with disabilities and special needs. We can see this effort, for example, on sidewalks and in public transportation, which have been gradually adapted to everyone.

Tourism also is following this guideline. Some places and attractions can now be enjoyed by all, and others are perfecting to meet people with all kinds of disabilities and reduced mobility, as well as pregnant women, the elderly citizens and obese.

Several Brazilian destinations are prepared to receive tourists with special needs. In this itinerary, we chose three places and we listed as accessible attractions and activities.

You can follow the suggested schedule, a day for each location or you can stay longer in each place to better enjoy the designed infrastructures to meet all visitors, no distinction. Tour length can increase according to the displacement between the cities.

Day 1
Accessibility at Iguazu Falls

Foz do Iguaçu, in the state of Paraná, is literally a wonder. Its waterfalls are among the New Seven Wonders of Nature and Itaipu Dam collects several tributes and awards. Moreover, most of their structures and tourist services, such as airport and public transportation system, are adapted to everyone.

Many attractions are inclusive and accessible to all. Iguaçu National Park is a great example of it. The place has wheelchair walkways, which can get you close to the Devil's Throat, famous spot of the park and the largest of its 275 waterfalls of 150 million years.

At Parque das Aves (Birds Park) you can watch about 150 species of birds as well as other animals. It is in the accessible attraction list as well Itaipu Tourist Complex, which reveals inside the largest electricity producer operation in the world.

Foz do Iguaçu is one of the first cities of inclusive and accessible tourism. The city takes very serious the subject. It is even possible to find safe parachute jumping adapted to people with disabilities.

Day 2
Capital of accessibility adventure tourism

To get to Brotas, state of São Paulo, the best way is to catch a plane to the Viracopos airport, in Campinas, which has reasonable accessibility. Take a taxi or a bus or even rent a car. All services can be obtained in the airport.

Known as the adventure tourism capital, Brotas is also concerned with inclusive and accessible to all. In 2015, the City Hall developed an accessibility center to protect the tourism and entertainment rights for persons with disabilities.

Such care is reflected in the creation of affordable services. The tours are the same even when there are handicapped people. The only difference is the need of operational procedures. The instructors and guides are ready to provide any assistance.

Among the activities that can be done by all the audience, we can mention the track to the Areia que Canta (Singing Sand) spring. The explanation for this name is when you rub the sand; the grains will emit a sound like cuíca (Brazilian friction drum, type of small opossum, very popular instrument, mainly in samba schools).

There is also tree climbing and zip-lining in several adventures spots in the city as well as rafting on the Jacaré-Pepira River, passing through the Saltos Park. Rappelling is also adapted but not recommended for visual impairment.

Accessibility: Hearing, motor, physical or visual impairments.

Day 3
Ecotourism for all

Bonito is surrounded by a unique nature and it is known as the best ecotourism destination in Brazil with its waterfalls, hiking trails, boat trips and local flora and fauna observation. Best of all: most of these activities are geared to people with special needs.

To go to Bonito, take a plane to Campo Grande airport, capital of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. After, you can take a van, a taxi or a bus.

The great attraction of the city is Anhumas Abyss, a cave which access is only by rappelling and is one of the attractions that can be enjoyed by all. The 70 meters decline takes you to a beautiful clear water natural pool where it is possible to dive with an oxygen tank. The handicapped goes down together with the instructor, who ensures his/her safety.

Fluctuation in Sucuri River is also adapted to all audiences. After a short training, all you must do is let the calm waters carry you among a great scenario of nature and beauty.

Just like in Brotas, guides and instructors are trained to offer any assistance required. What about enjoying this amazing place?

Accessibility: Hearing, motor, physical or visual impairments.
