Located within the state of Maranhão, the source of the Preguiças river is located in the municipality of Anapurus; it traverses more than 120 km, passing by Barreirinhas, until flowing into the Atlantic Ocean in front of the village of Atins.
Flanked by mangroves and dunes, the Preguiças River is the main means of livelihood and subsistence of the majority of the riverside population and also the main waterway in the region. It is said that the name of the river is due to the calmness of its waters that flow lazily following the currents. The river also surrounds the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, a paradise-like desert with white dunes and crystal clear ponds.
From its shore, several amazing tours depart. On the boat ride from Barreirinhas to Caburé, you can stop in the village of Vassouras and enjoy the good food infrastructure. There, you can also see monkeys up close and walk through the Pequenos Lençóis. In the village of Atins, you can taste delicacies such as crabs, fish and shrimp.
