The Metropolitan Cathedral of Porto Alegre, popularly known as Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus Cathedral, lies in the center of the city and draws the attention of all who visit it.
With beautiful structure, the Church was designed by the Italian professor of Fine Arts João Batista Giovenale, and is characterized by lines that reveal traces of Renaissance art. The towers, inaugurated in 1971, resemble the model built at the time of the Jesuit missions in the state.
The mosaics are another highlight. Made by the Vatican Mosaic School, they represent the history of the Church in the state. The crystals have about 10 thousand nuances of color, with emphasis to blue cobalt, turquoise and marine, mixed with gold.
The altar, where the sculpture of Mãe de Deus is, was done in Carrara marble, with oil painting on canvas by Aldo Locatelli.
Take the opportunity to take beautiful photos and attend a mass.
