In the North coast of Bahia, besides a beautiful scenery, you can find large - and husky -surprises! In the city of Mata de São João, at Praia do Forte, you will find one of the headquarters of Projeto Tamar, an incredible work by numerous professionals who protect five species of sea turtles, all threatened with extinction. The project spans over nine Brazilian States: covering 1,100 km of beaches, in 25 locations in feeding, growth, spawning and resting areas for the turtles.

In the midst of a fascinating biodiversity, you find the visitorcenter, that works by offering environmental education, exhibitions, photographic panels and events. In addition to the leisure spaces, you will find shops that are full souvenirs and that help in fundraising for the conservation of sea turtles.

The best-and most exciting-time to visit the project is between September and March, when spawning occurs. This is the opportunity to witness this rare moment and enjoy the natural beauty and historical and cultural wealth of the region.
